Jesus said, “Blessed is the peacemaker, for they shall be called the sons of God.” The intimacy between constructing peace and the inheritance of the God’s abundant blessing of belonging are rich brothers/sisters of the kingdom of God. Making [creating] assumes tensions, divisions, misunderstandings that would surround our lives. Remarkably, however, the inheritor of God’s abundant blessing is called to “do peace.” Not simply to believe in peace, nor wish for peace, but to do peace granting the believer with capacity to live out the life gifted in Jesus, the true peacemaker.
We can begin peacemaking with prayer for it is in prayer that we are welcomed to hear, to sense, God’s workings in the world and most intimately, in and out of our relationships.
Pray with me, will you?
Compassionate God,
In Jesus Christ who
delivered us from all manner of injustices and inequalities,
create in us new hearts and enlarged visions,
to see the image of God in every person
irrespective of background, race and ethnicity.
May we be generous in our love of others
as we work towards ending misunderstanding, racism and injustice; creating communities of human flourishing,
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
